re TCO:

This is his mantra, which he says all the time. When IT budgets start going back up (late 2001? late 2002?), this is going to mean a return to high revenue growth rates for NTAP. But, until then, the debate is not between NAS and SAN. Rather, the debate is between buying or not buying anything at all.

EMC has been doing a bad job of guidance, changing their expected sales growth from 35% to 25% to 35% to 20%, all very recently. It makes more sense to just do what CSCO and AMAT management is doing, and say, "the future is opaque, our results will depend on macroeconomic events that we can neither control nor anticipate."
