Yeah, you could do that for the cancers for which screenings are available. But...

First of all, there are no screenings for lots of cancers. And even with regular screenings, you would only know an approximate date of onset, off by years. How long might you have had prostate cancer before a screening picks it up? Maybe ten years, and then you'd have to do a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis, etc....

And secondly, you'd have to screen everybody for everything often to gather the data. That subjects them to additional screenings/procedures and them and/or the system to some serious additional cost. All so that we could see whose is bigger, France's or ours? I would think that that money could be better spent.

Gathering performance data is great if you can do it as a byproduct of what you're doing anyway. To do extra stuff to create the data, maybe not so cost effective.
