Of course I am joking. But it would be the best thing that could happen to our republic. Actually a required four year hiatus from democracy every fifty years might allow a four year term limited dictator to shake out our cobwebs and solve problem that could never be solved through political compromise. It of course would have to be an elective office held by someone who could have never held any other federal office and whom would be barred from any future federal office.
