People will only continue to upgrade their computers if there is some
application they want to run which their current computer can't handle (this is aside from that small percentage of people who always
must have the latest and greatest at any cost). Therefore I agree that Siii future is bright if compelling 3d applications can be brought to market. Speaking personally, I am quite happy without 3d capability, although I am not a game player and I don't claim to be the representative user. What is going to make me run out to the store and buy a 3d graphics accelerator? I think this is an important question.
Right now computer makers are putting in Virge chips because they are so cheap so they might as well. However, is there a need for better 3d chips for the average user? It seems that the low end graphics business will become increasingly a commdity business and the gross margins will shrink, reducing earnings.
