Then you see what happens with a system when a stock makes it move. Yes you need as much data as you can get ahold of, but Stocks don't always follow the market. They have their bears and bulls aside from market. The sell or buy on a stock are valid, your returns may be different depending on where it is in cycle. But if your system told you to sell when the bear cycle is in control, it did its job.

optimization is good to get in ball park during the creation of a system, not to trade with.
