Was Reagan a factor? Yes. But it was our policy for decades before to hurt the Soviets any way we could. And the USSR was showing signs of stress well before Reagan took office.

And he blew billions on non-working weapon systems. Remember the B-1? It is rarely used, for a reason. Which is why we still have B-52s, a design which dates back to the 1940s. How about the MX missile? It never met the requirements it was supposed. Wound up being pulled from service and eventually sold, at no doubt a heavily discounted price, to Orbital Science who is using them to launch satellites.

The Right's Reagan worship is almost funny. I know y'all like to pretend that the Left worships Obama, but with y'all it is the real deal. You actually worship the man. Who left office in disgrace. Iran-Contra was a huge blow. Now it very well may be that it was done behind his back by his aides. But that doesn't help much. There is evidence that the Reagan administration had many more dealings with the Iranians than was known.
