There were people who understood what was happening and foresaw the consequences. They turned out to be completely correct.
I was one of them. I figured out early on that modernizing and industrializing the third world sooner or later will force us to compete with them. And it’s hard to compete with people willing to work for a few cents on the dollar - even while their work habits and skills continue to improve.

In other words, Globalization = Equalization. The trend would be set for all nations to keep becoming more equal economically. Developing nations would get wealthier - and the rich countries, poorer. At least, in relative terms.

Maybe for selfish reasons, but I wasn’t enthusiastic about it. But - the “cat” jumped out of the bag. When people see an opportunity, they learn fast. Already in the 90’s we had the “Asian Tigers”, if you recall - and things rolled along ever since.
