I’ve been posting since the first weeks of the war that Russia sees the situation as something critical to their survival as a nation - and therefore, they would not accept defeat.

That, of course, has the potential to create risky situations.

The young man interviewing Mearsheimer - like a large majority of Europeans - appears to assume that Russia is losing. They thought this way since the first days of the war - Ever since Russia failed to have their victory parade in Kiev on day 3 (as I recall). We’ve heard a constant flow of warnings that they’re out of rockets, shells and other ammo: that they had to scavenge washing machines for chips, that they had no shoes and no uniforms.

They’re far from losing. They’re destroying Ukraine's infrastructure at will — little by little. Seemingly, they're preparing an offensive.

What is happening to Ukraine is a great tragedy. Those people gave the a-hole Zelensky over 73% of the popular vote - on the promise that he would bring peace, stay out of nato, settle the issues with the Eastern provinces based on the Minsk accords.

Instead, he ramped up the war against their Eastern ethnic Russian regions, made friends with the radicals - and kept the nato aspirations going - front and center.

The dude sued for peace after literally a few days of war, ready to sign off on all demands. The very next morning, he sharply changed the tone. We can guess why.
