Compaq Execs Tout Win 2000 Server Products
(02/01/00, 2:39 p.m. ET) By Stuart Glascock, TechWeb
Compaq executives said Tuesday they are ready and eager to hit to the streets with Internet-enabled
server, storage, and security products that are maximized for Microsoft's long-awaited Windows 2000
when it formally launches Feb. 17.

"Compaq has the largest portfolio of products to help customers manage and support virtually every
kind of Windows 2000 environment," said Mark Lewis, Compaq vice president of enterprise storage
software.

Windows 2000, the highly anticipated upgrade to Windows NT 4, is the biggest product launch for the
Redmond, Wash.-based software behemoth since Windows 95 was designed, tested, and deployed
on Compaq products, Lewis said.

While Microsoft has long partnered with leading computer makers, Compaq and Microsoft have
enjoyed an especially close-knit affiliation, extending most recently into co-developing, production,
and marketing Windows 2000 products. Compaq is the only computer maker participating in
Microsoft's Win 2000 Rapid Deployment Program and it has widely deployed the forthcoming
operating system internally.

Houston-based Compaq's executives spoke to analysts on a conference call that coincided with a
major print advertising blitz launched Tuesday by Microsoft in national newspapers. The ads show
three green lights and emphasize 24-by-7 availability of the forthcoming operating system.

Windows 2000 has greater Internet capabilities and addresses the reality of more complex storage
area networks, Lewis said. Compaq storage products will leverage Windows 2000 for great business
flexibility, he said.

"We expect Windows 2000 to drive a continued effort toward storage consolidation," he said. "We've
been committed to Microsoft to co-develop products within the storage environment that maximize
customers' efficiencies."

The formal launch of Windows 2000 will be hosted ..........more at link..........
