And if we destroy our educatonal system, our society goes the way of the "Lord of the flies". I pretty easily worked my way through graduate school. But my two daughters, who have a total of 11 years of college ( 8 years of which were at public instiutions) has cost the three families paying for most of the education, almost one half million dollars. And now this! In Denmark anyone can get a PHD for free and take as long as they want as long as they pass the tests. They have very high taxes and are also considered the happiest people on earth. A democracy works best with an educated populace. The neo cons do have a philosophy of destroying the public school system and replacing it with vouchers e.g look at Texas and Katrina. Many vouchers are used by the parents to send students to instiutions which only provide a dogma, rather than introdue the student to the eclectic wisdom of all the cultures and people in the world as most public instituions do for their students. We are running down a slippery slope of ignorance.
