Reading a variety of threads around SI, I note that each is looking for an explanation as to why the fall and when the rebound based upon the particular stock. This sell-off is broad, and bears little relationship to the outlook for any particular company.

The time when these stocks quietly ran and provided a steady stream of amusement are gone. They are the kings of the hill, and everybody (though most notably cnbc) wants to knock the king off the hill. Lots of jittery people around, trying to time or outsmart the market, as well as buy-and-holders. They're saying that the bubble can't burst, but they don't really believe themselves. Nobody likes to watch their profits wittle away, and be the last guy pounding away.

But this isn't about cmgi, or aol, amzn. This about fear and loathing of success. We're doing too well, so something must be wrong. There's a herd of investors who will bide their time, knowing that 330 is around the corner no matter what happens today. But there's a herd that just can't take the pressure. Just remember that it isn't a one-stock problem, and the day trippers can't make the future go away.
