Yes, Ebay has a tight hold on the online auction market at the moment, but it might be possible for Microsoft and
others to use marketing dollars to pry open that hold - and Microsoft has quite few dollars to spend on marketing.
And with Ebay's outages, I imagine that some sellers are open to evaluating other sites.

Enough already with MSFT. MSFT is not the king of everything. I already heard during the last month or two that MSFT has enough money to take down AOL. Next MSFT will be the king of e-commerce. Now they have enough money to out market EBAY. MSFT has a lot of money but their money will get stretched very thin if they try to compete in fields in which they lack expertise.

MSFT can't take all markets.
