Ian,

You are right; none have said they won't make earnings, as an official pre-announcement. But CPQ, DELL, HP IBM, and Acer have all been reported to be looking at a tough quarter, or that they are losing big bucks in general. I hadn't heard Mr. Birinyi's statement, so perhaps I was caught up in the wrong-way Corrigan syndrome myself. I guess my point was the same as yours - in spite of the cloud hanging over the techs right now, and the equipment companies specifically, one can speculate that the earnings reports might come in quite favorably.
