>>> The war on drugs, that's how.<<

…And then, the war on drugs became the war on CoViD?

War on drugs became the original weaponization of healthcare? I think it’s definitely related. The Gov was always schizo about drug use. They’d say, Yes, addiction is a disease. And Yes, if we catch you in any activities related to this disease, we will deprive you of your freedom for a long time.

The so called war on drugs became one of the a great paths for the growth of government. As well as a great intrusion on individual liberties. Interesting how the propaganda industries managed to keep most people unaware about the great experiment in Portugal, where they decriminalized personal drug use many years ago. Contrary to expectations, nothing happened. The entire world didn’t come down to Lisbon to get high. In fact, heavy drug use significantly decreased.

I was in Lisbon in Oct 2021. Over 10 days, seeing thousands of people - didn’t notice anything related to drugs. Try spending 15 minutes on the West side of Manhattan.

So, yeah, you definitely have a point.

What is it that drives politicians to power? Why are they so happy to embrace anything that will give them more power over others? The short answer is - that’s their nature. Freud thought what drives humans is libido and its sublimations. Carl Jung thought it was an interplay between archetypes. Alfred Adler thought it was Will to Power, as a separate instinct. Victor Frankl spoke about a Will to Meaning.

I suspect that all of them were right - it’s different in different people. I suppose, a constructive approach to psychoanalysis should start at determining the psychological type of an individual. This would determine the best approach to therapy. But - nothing will change politicians and bureaucrats. The moment they smell power, they’ll run with it.
