Happy 2012 to SI, but especially to the helpful and patient people on this thread. Thank you!~

Yet another question: My email program is Outlook, but my isp is Verizon (for email, phone, cable).

A few days ago when things were hectic, I got the following email from Verizon and ignored it. But maybe I shouldn't have. What do you think? (The bolding is to make it easier to distinguish between Verizon and me; I'm not shouting or indicating desperation!)

"Dear Verizon Internet Customer,

At Verizon, we continue our efforts to enhance your online experience as well as ensure ongoing security for our Internet customers. As a result, Verizon Online has modified the way email is handled when sent or received through an email application other than MyVerizon.

If you only use MyVerizon to access your email account, no action is required and you may disregard this email. If you do, however, use other applications to access your Verizon email, such as Outlook Express®, you will need to modify your email settings to take advantage of enhanced security we now offer.

In order to make these modifications, please visit
<A href="https://econtact.verizon.com/ecrm/includes/html/vzfwd.html?destination=http%3A%2F%2Fverizon.com%2Femailsettings&txid=B20111228_415974856&lid=4938&tid=9447&vno=2http://verizon.com/emailsettings for information about the email settings you need to update. Additional information may also be available by going to our online forum at <A href="https://econtact.verizon.com/ecrm/includes/html/vzfwd.html?destination=http%3A%2F%2Fforums.verizon.com%2F&txid=B20111228_415974856&lid=4939&tid=9447&vno=2http://forums.verizon.com/.

Thanks for being a valued Verizon Online customer and we encourage you to act now to ensure your email account has the proper settings on a going-forward basis.

Sincerely,

Verizon Online

This is what it says when I begin to "Set up [my] Verizon Account" as they urge, because of course anyone would want "enhanced security."

"1. Select your Software 2. Choose Setup Method 3. Setup Email Software 4. Done!

The Verizon Troubleshooter can help you set up your Verizon Email account on a variety of
different email software or with the
Verizon Message Center.
How would you like to set up your email account?

Verizon Message Center Microsoft Outlook, Express Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail

1. Select your Software 2. Choose Setup Method 3. Setup Email Software 4. Done!

Verizon Message Center
Microsoft Outlook Express
Microsoft Outlook
Apple Mail"

I selected Outlook, but when I got to "Choose Setup method" and "Setup Email Software" I got an uneasy feeling. I've done fine with Outlook, and have the feeling that the promise of the "enhanced security we now offer" is uncomfortably vague. (I have anti-virus and anti-malware programs already.)

Can someone please give me permission just to ignore this email from Verizon, which just feels to me like a covert gimmick of some sort?

Oops. I just noticed that not having switched to Raw Text before pasting may make my results unpredictable. I hope someone gets the gist anyway. ..
