Terry, you have a tendency to reduce things to aphorisms. Try keeping your wealth in a society without government. Liberia might be a current example. Big industry is no more a respecter of the rights of others than is big government. If given the chance to exploit people who must work to eat, many corporations will do just that. It is a question of power. Big government will abuse the power it has, and businessmen, who oddly enough are the same human stock as those in government, can be expected to do the same. Adam Smith was a moral philosopher as well as an economist, and this great expounder of the free market recognized the need to temper human nature.
