Which bit Karl Rove and Mitt Romney on the ass last election, as they BOTH believed Mitt had won the election, until reality ruled that was not the case.

That election showed exactly how detached they had become from the rest of us. There were signs in the 2008 election, but it was crystal clear by 2012. Instead of wondering why their internal polls were so different from all of the others, the apparently just assumed they were privy to some secret knowledge. Because they echo chamber encourages that sort of thinking.

I don't see how 2016 will be any better. Their candidate will be delivering zingers that play well in the echo chamber and will leave everyone else confused. And expect more debate moments when their candidate tries to pounce on his Democratic rival and it turns out the killer point was just made up by someone...
