When the last throes do arrive, they will be reported from Iraq with silence, and the media will be reporting something other than Iraq entirely, the midterm elections or whatever catches their attention. The media will not mention that the insurgents are giving up, except to carp at whatever deal Maliki works out with the Sunni insurgents.

Therefore, you'll be able to deny that the last throes exist, since you won't have heard them reported.

It works that way wherever the insurgents have been beaten. Heard any reports from Mosul lately? Last year, we heard a bunch of them. Then... silence.
