Thanks for the kind wishes uw. You don't know how close your comment is t the truth..... "And don't let the physical terrorists at the hospital get to ya" I completely ruptured my Patellar tendon. My rehab is essentially 2 hours of torture 3 days a week for the next year. The therapist has me lay on my back while he lifts my leg & bends my knee until the quadriceps muscle & the repaired patellar tendon resist further flexion. The therapist then applies significant pressure to stretch both the patellar & the quadriceps. I squeal like a stuck pig. The threapist then applies more pressure & holds it there for freaking ever. OK, maybe 25-30 seconds. I am overtaken by an onset of Tourette's Syndrome. The Lord's name is taken in vain several times. This process is repeated until my eyes pop out of my head. OK, maybe 5 times & my eyes only bulge out like Marty Feldman's. cmgww.com But wait! There's more! I am given a minute to rest & allow the purple spots disappear from my vision. The therapist has me lie on my stomach. He places one hand firmly on my hip & bends my leg upward until it resists further flexion. He then applies significant pressure to stretch both the patellar & the quadriceps. I bury my face in the pillow & scream bloody murder. He applies more pressure & holds it for 45 seconds or so. I scream so loud my vocal chords get caught in my eye teeth. Volunteer firemen throughout the county report to their fire houses thinking the sirens at their stations have been activated. This process is repeated 4 or 5 times. On the 3rd flexion, seismologists report measurable activity on the Richter Scale in western PA. By time he is ready to do the 5th flexion I promise to vote for John Kerry if he quits now. :-o FWIW.... Unilateral traumatic ruptures of the patellar tendon tend to occur when a violent contraction of the quadriceps is resisted by the flexed knee (eg, while landing after a jump). The estimated force required to disrupt the extensor mechanism has been reported to be as high as 17.5 times body weight.
