TraderXx,

I think your recent post was an important one. It regards repricing in January at the UMC foundry.

Brisk demand is prompting us to raise prices of 8-inch equivalent wafers by 5 percent to 25 percent. On top of that, we plan to increase the prices for some long-term customers from January.

I hope that SanDisk is not included in that company.

Dr. Harari mentioned that the 256 Mbit D2 technology will lead to a 300% increase (3X) in MB per wafer output in 2000. Thus, even though raw wafer amounts may stay the same or increase only a smaller fraction incrementally (2 new UMC fabs should be up and running in 2000 vs. 1999), the total MB production will go up substantially.

One example is the ability to produce a 32MB MMC without requiring the stacking of chips that has lead to decreased manufacturing yields.

It may be reasonable to speak to Cindy Burgdorf about the intended cost increases in 2000 at UMC and how they will impact SNDK. I think that is fair game.
