I had a similar experience. When I started, non-AA staff in travel status had to arrive on site by 9 am no matter how far you had to travel [then put in a full day before you checked into your hotel]. At the end of the week you could not leave before 2 pm. Often we had to travel on Sunday on our own time.

Eventually someone made a huge issue over traveling on personal time after the OIG refused to pay for damages to a rental car accident because the employee was not officially on the job. It opened a huge can of worms because anything that happened to someone not officially on duty would not be covered.

Of course my RIGA did his damnedest to force all non-AA staff to live under his illegal rules. It took a few more years before I finally told him to either fire me or officially put it in writing what my non-standard travel status rules were. Essentially, I ended up having to do that for all of his illegal double standard rules, far too many to even think about listing here.

We too ended up going to flex time which was nice. Then we switched to Flexi-schedule [where you could work 9 hours a day & earn flexi hours to take off later] even though I still worked far in excess of 40 hours a week. It let me take a day off occasionally when before I'd just work 10-12+ hours a day & get nothing. At least I was able to get a fraction of that time back.

Then we got Flexi-Place which almost caused my RIGA to have both a heart attack & a stroke. Needless to say he was a major control freak. Flexi-Place felt like a major loss of control to him. Like I wasn't going to work my ass off at home [either my work was getting done on time or it wasn't. There was no way to hide slacking].

:-)
