I would agree with you regarding monopolies in the past, and perhaps some markets today, but not in computer software.

There is no way that Microsoft can keep me from producing a product and releasing that product worldwide. The Internet, and instant communications make this possible. Perhaps the Monopoly Market model existed in the past, but IMHO, it does not in todays software market.

the Monopoly leaches its free ride
Presuming you think MSFT is a monopoly, where has it "leached" anything? It has provided product for those who wish to purchase. Nothing more, nothing less. It has leached nothing. Quite the contrary, it has been leached from by our government.
