I agree with you to a certain extent. However, there are some simple rules that could be put in place that would cut down on the corruption of the market as you describe it. For example, why would you support the ability of a company's CEO to also be Chairman of the Board? Doesn't that strike you as the fox guarding the henhouse? He can pay himself what he wants by stacking the Board in his favor. It happens all the time. Do you think that makes for a healthy company? That's certainly not a market decision on how that CEO is paid, but rather he's captured the processes to enrich himself and cut off all dissent.

And exactly why do you believe Shareholders, who own the company btw, should not have the right to use their shares to vote for the leaders they believe will maximize their shareholder's return? I know I will always vote for my pocket book and so would you. There is no conflict of interest in giving shareholder's the right to use Democracy within a corporate structure to maximize value.
