SAT scores: The good news is math
Verbal skills still lag; California shows gains
BY MICHAEL BAZELEY
Mercury News Staff Writer

The nation's high school Class of '98 hit a 27-year high in math on the rigorous SAT college entrance exam, according to scores released Tuesday, but its average verbal score still hovered only six points above the record low.
