I hope so too...In being objective, there are some caveats:
Linux, as for Unix, is based on having it become an Open-System Standard...now for Unix, you can have either the Berkley or AT&T version (that has been expanded, value added)...You will also find that SUN's flavor of AT&T Unix (Solaris) differs from DEC's, etc...there is no universal version!!! (It is Still Proprietary)!!!
Now Linux is to be different, and some vendors are not adding anything value added to the Kernal???
Now, what is the big draw for Linux, one fact is the small foot print of the OS, then open source, but once you dink with it you own it, and there are no guarantees that another vendors software will work...
This is a quick post, so I am just touching on the high points, and why I think RHAT is way over-priced...
Open software, compatibility with existing MS software through a converter...Hey, wait a minute...does this not mean that a Third Party software vendors will have to make their software source code available, to conform with the Linux model??? They would (will) not do it today with their MS based software, will they do it for Linux???
Time will decide...
I'll let you decide what this means... :< I know...
Just a few thoughts...
