Well Hal, I'm one consumer that isn't complaining about lack of choice of OS for the Intel platform. As to those who would complain, I can only say that perhaps you are onto something, much as Bill and Paul were. Perhaps Hal, you will be the next Bill Gates. You see a void to be filled, so go ahead and attempt to fill it if you feel that there is a need. I'm comfortable, happy, and content, under the "benevolent dictatorship" of Wintel.
