Autumn, Yes the MMs have a vested interest in seeing the markets go down as well as up. All I have to do is just remind you and everybody else on this BB of the recent problems that the MMs had as they were caught selling short more than they had on their books - which of course at the time drove some stocks down very badly. This was very well publicised on television and other news media some months back. Of course, now we know that the MMs have nothing to do with these prices jumping up and then jumping down, don't we (wink, wink and grin, grin). What amazes me is that Prodigy had a market maker on their Money Talk BB under a special category to answer all questions and nobody seemed to pay attention or remember what he said on there. Two things stood out that I have been saying on the BBs for years, but people choose to believe what they will.
One, he said in response to question, yes, the market makers do canvas all BBs for information concerning the individual investors
thinking about the markets and individual stocks that each MM is responsible for. Two, that without admission of any guilt - yes, it was and is possible for the MMs to swing a stock or option down and up at will, but if they were caught - well, naughty-naughty (ggg).
And, of course I've received some E-mail myself from market makers, analysts, newsletter writers, etc. - all expressing their private views to me. Hope this helps you and others to understand more about the system. Good trading. Jack
