CDMA, or Code Division Multiple Access, is an advanced digital wireless transmission technique over radio waves. It uses mathematical codes, instead of frequencies or time slots, to transmit wireless conversations.
My Sprint PCS phone uses CDMA technology developed by Qualcomm. For me, I really like the technology. My old analog phone with Ni-Cd batteries could only go on stand-by for a few hours and make a few minutes worth of calls. My new phone can go 6 days continuously on standby, even with a about an hour of calling each week. The reason, besides obviously a far better Li+ battery is that CDMA allows the phone to constantly change and broadcast at different power levels and can consume up to 25,000 times less power during stand-by. , thus becoming far more efficient.
