the fed ex announcement has been dispatched with post haste, and only a little collateral damage to show. we got through it!! big sigh of relief!! lets hope there are no more land mines like this in the future!
yes, it is true that java and NCs, as the article points out, are late, way late. and this fed ex decision is still not final. and even so, it is only one! there will be plenty more. all those startups will soon make a difference. java still has the momentum and sunw and oracle (when they get a new ceo of NCI) and IBM (when they find a new leader for their java effort) will real soon now be releasing NCs and real java software, they will be generating real income for shareholders. and javasoft will begin to turn a profit so that the millions sunk into it will not go down the drain.
have no fear, the sunw dream is still intact. it is just taking a little longer than we all thought. but it will happen. you can count on it. it may look bad now but you wait.
i'm sure that in the next earnings announcement, scott will finally break out the revenue and income from javasoft and sunsoft. and he will also tell us how the javastation is doing. i know he will tell us these things because we believe in him and he is all about full disclosure.
yes, all we need is a bit more patience. NT as we all know does not scale, and it never will because of all the new code. and even so, solaris will be way ahead by then anyway. and i'm sure that scott will make another announcement about a new unix license. ncr just can't be the last one! and darwin is just the ticket to be back down those pesky nt workstations. for gosh sakes, they aren't even real workstations anyway! why? because they don't run UNIX!!!
and we still have all those little devices that will be running java. I know. I know. of all the little hand held computers out there, none are java based. most are windows ce. but scott will have some announcements about the coming hand helds, i'm sure. and it's true that webtv is still the only internet appliance that is out there but i'm positive that scott's purchase of DIBA will bear fruit real soon and there will be a java based webtv competitor on the market any day.
i know the stock is down a little from the all time high but I predict it will be back soon. once all this great stuff in the labs kicks in!!
anyway. I hope everyone feels good about the way we stamped out the fed ex article. we should be proud of ourselves!! Finally. I want to leave you with some encouragement. Let's all hang in there. Earnings announcmens will be here soon so we'll have something to talk about again!!!
