Zamir:

If the British did not raise the issue of a separate country out of the British India, the question of Pakistan would not arise. Jinnah was for one India. But, the British and the West offered carrots. Jinnah, as a strong leader, could arouse passions of Muslims either way. Even today, the West is not willing to accept the idea of a strong and prosperous Indian subcontinent. They want to continue to sell arms to Pakistan. Pakistan spends 6.5% of GNP on defense as opposed to India's 2.4%. The West is giving nothing free to Pakistan; the US has not even returned Pakistan's money for the F16's.

I think, at least now, Pakistani rulers should realize that India is not their enemy; it is the West that is against the development of the region.
