Can Sun stay in business selling SPARC
and Java to the cable industry? Maybe they
don't need to sell workstations, just
NC's, excuse me Set Top Boxes.

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Prospects that digital set-top boxes made by
Scientific-Atlanta Inc. will be used by the nation's cable television
operators sparked a surge in the company's shares Wednesday.
Shares rose 12% after Ragen MacKenzie analyst Mary Ryan issued a
"buy" recommendation on Scientific-Atlanta (SFA) stock, which analysts
say also was helped by the perceived easing of the Asian economic crisis.
Scientific-Atlanta shares were trading at midafternoon up $1.975, or
12%, at $17.625 on volume of 1.4 million shares, compared with the daily
average of 615,500.
"Given their technological lead, Scientific-Atlanta could capture
between 35% to 50% of the digital set-top market," Ryan said.
"Longer-term, a resumption in growth in the U.K. and Asia would improve
profit margins."
