We have no alternative but to fight the terrorists in Iraq and pound them into kingdom come.

We need to "pound" the terrorists/Jihadists on both sides. Because our battle is with those muslims who CHOOSE to pursue militant methods of spreading their religion.

At the end of the day, the Mahdists are just as much of a threat as Al Qai'da. And actually, given that they currently have a sanctuary to hide in, Iran, they are probably even more dangerous. And Iran serves as a logistical and financial center as well, something that the Taliban's Afghanistan could never provide to Bin Ladin.

I'm really hoping that the recent results in Iran against Ahmadinejad is ushering in a new political reality there. We know the Ayatollahs will have the final say for the for the foreseeable future, but they have to be uncomfortable using force to repress the people.
