Here we go: research.stlouisfed.org That is the income of the federal gov't- -taxes in ALL forms. Let me point that that curve has hardly EVER declined, peace or war. It seemingly makes no difference- -the tax burden grows. So I find an argument that it has not decreased in previous wars in this century unimpressive- -it mostly doesn't decrease ANYWAY. Also, that data is only since 1901. I have not found earlier data, so a statement about wartime periods prior to 1900 can't be substantiated- -it is just speculation. The actual data is below. Secondly, the tax cut passed in 2001 was bogus on its face. It was supposedly passed as a measure to stimulate the economy, yet it gave little immediate relief when the economy was in trouble and instead gave its largest cuts 10 years out when NO ONE has any idea of what ourr economic state will be- -we could have raging inflation when the last thing wanted is more stimulus.
