Kerry has taken many moderate positions; Gramm-Rudman, Iraq War, welfare reform, middleclass tax cuts, etc. Plus he's a war hero who owns and uses guns and he's against gay marriage and bleeding heart liberalism. You can describe him as a "tough liberal" if you like, or a "common sense moderate-progressive". No other labels fits.
