<<The incident was first reported Friday by The Clarion-Ledger newspaper in Jackson, Miss. Family members told the newspaper that several platoon members had been confined, but the military did not confirm that.>>

I read this report when it first came out. It's not available on line anymore from the Clarion-Ledger but other local newspapers reported what appears in Google news to be the same AP text. This is the first paragraph:

<<The Army is investigating up to 19 members of a supply platoon in Iraq who refused to go on a convoy mission, the military said Friday. Relatives of the soldiers said the troops considered the mission too dangerous, in part because their vehicles were in such poor shape.>>

So what is that story "about"? Is it about troops who refused an order because they don't appreciate Bush or is it about troops at unnecessary risk due to inadequate equipment? For you it's all about Bush. For me it's all about the risk to the troops. The story could be "about" a breakdown in discipline or a breakdown of trucks--both are mentioned in that first paragraph--but I think one has do a whole chain of inferring and have a whole different priority scheme to conclude that it's "about" Bush.

So, what should they have done with this story? Not reported it even though the soldier's mom contacted the media at her daughter's request and asked that it be publicized?
