No I haven't read the book. Considering that millions of books have been published, and that there are perhaps hundreds of books I've already thought about and might consider buying and reading, I would take some convincing to get me to conclude that buying and reading the book would be worth my time and money.
First, you don't have to buy the book if you have a library card. Second, as noted below, the author is quite learned and takes a multi disciplinary approach. Third, any learned position that provokes an individual to reflect on basic ethical and moral issues that may even impact how an individual sees the world and conducts ones own life, never mind how it might impact (or already have started to be imbedded in) our gov't's public policy, is worthwhile.
James Lovelock, is no flake. He has authored of more than 200 scientific papers, the originator of the Gaia Hypothesis, linked with many universities in the UK and USA, a scientific advisor to the British Gov't, a fellow of the Royal Society and a Companion of Honour by Her majesty the Queen. |
