Yes, and my son came home one night telling me how cool it was that Josh's dad smoked pot with them. A couple years later, Josh's dad found him dead in his apartment after he ODed on Fentanyl. Josh was a great kid, and his dad was a nice guy; he coached my son in baseball.

I don't think Josh's dad was responsible for his death; I don't think he could have told Josh anything that would have prevented it. Josh was highly intelligent, and just made the mistake of getting involved with substances he couldn't control. It was in many ways the saddest funeral I ever attended.

One of my best life long friends is an accountant who received her BS with a 4.00 and graduated from the same MBA program I did with a single B. She was a heavy pot smoker the entire time, but never touched harder substances. That was 35 years ago. Today, her life has been destroyed by Rx drug addiction combined with a confused legal system.

The point is that what you believe are predictors of addiction are not. Clearly, there is a gap in your scientific knowledge lol. For the most part addiction is about genetics and brain chemistry. But the substances available today can bring about addiction in anyone. At any time.
