Big oil is now a monopoly because they collude. There is no competition, at least in the US. That is illegal.

With two of their own cronies runninjg the federal government, they see this as the golden opportunity to double the prices for as long as possible. So they price fix higher and higher. That is illegal too.

As soon as Bush-Cheney are gone, prices will plummet because gouging investigations will be on the way. Big Oil will take the money and run (and lobby).
