If they eject the public option, IMHO they are not doing their job. Much of this is turning out to be throwing 'stuff' against the wall to see what works, and certainly 'public health insurance' has worked very well in a lot of countries... most in fact (a proven model). Politics not pragmatism is driving this... we need to reduce costs, that is the bottom line and let the ideological walls fall where they may

With all respect, "throwing stuff against the wall" to see what politically sticks is no way to make major decisions which will affect future generations.

"Public option" would have only one purpose - to become, in time, the *only* option -- by "outcompeting" others while enjoying full political and financial support from the government.

We have two public entities at present -- Medicare, which is in a permanent fight for survival, and Medicaid - which is not good at all. Some may say that the VA system is a third such public option, but in my experience most veterans are not thrilled about it.

Imo, we need to take politics out of it - agree on that - and take enough time to have a serious national debate.
