Let's keep some perspective. The story didn't "wreak havoc" with the stock

The perspective is the dramatic dip in AAPL's stock when the "story" surfaced, and its quick recovery after the story proved untrue. The stock dropped from about 106 to 94.65, over a 10% drop, in just a few minutes, while the overall market was pretty much flat.

Your criticism is misplaced. But for the quick response to kill the rumor, it is likely the stock would have dropped further in this fragile market.

As far as AAPL's closing price, the drop was due to overall selling after the House approved the Economic Recovery bill.

You need only look at AAPL's performance compared to the S&P or other market indice.
