I'm not going to self-immolate to pay for sins of someone else's father. I faced challenges that most minorities didn't face and had I not married well - a woman who supported me in difficult situations, I would not be where I was and am now.
Sure, there are some rich white guys who make and influence policy but I'm not one of them, nor am I going to voluntarily associate myself with them, or volunteer to be punished with them. I've never been one of them and never benefited from any overt "white guy preference". I've had a majority of great female bosses with whom I always had the greatest respect (several were CEOs, Presidents and Vice-presidents) and most of my coworkers were minorities. My last job required me to personally address the discrimination against older workers in a very personal way and seek re-employment in a competitive industry against a field of younger people. Old white guys are the last minority that it is okay to bash. I'm liberal but I don't buy that people like me need to apologize to anyone. End of rant from the 15% of California that is "old white guys" who did nothing wrong, played by the rules and are sick of being blamed for shit that isn't our fault. |
