The problem we have right now is that becoming president (or a member of Congress) is essentially a sales job. As evidenced by the last two presidential elections, a slick talking salesman can get elected with virtually NO skills other than the ability to read a speech with confidence and authority.

It isn't just the president. It is insane that the top leaders in our country are Obama, Reid, McConnell, Boehner and Pelosi (in no particular order). Not ONE of these individuals is anywhere near qualified to hold the office he is in.

But I don't see it as a permanent affliction. This was a confluence of unlikely events. We have been 200 years getting a president as incompetent as Obama, and it isn't likely to happen against anytime soon. Even if Hillary wins in '16 it will be a considerable step up from Obama. And there are highly competent people running from the other side. So, I don't believe the leadership situation is hopeless.

I do, however, believe the debt situation is hopeless. They have taken all hope of a decent economic environment for future generations and flushed it down the toilet.
