I never lie or make anything up. I'm not asserting that you are lying. Only that I have no way to know that you are not lying, or otherwise giving an inaccurate or distorted statement about the event. was at a high-powered cocktail part in Austin Texas and I met this oil executive. I asked him if things had been better since Bush-Cheney got into power. He said "We can charge anything we want". Then I asked him if prices would go back down after Bush-Cheney were out. He suddenly sobered up and asked me if I was a democrat. I said yes and he clammed up, bolted away. OK so that's a little more context, but we still don't get who the oil exec was, what company he worked for or what level he had at the company. And pretty much the whole argument still resolves around assuming the statement "we can charge whatever we want" was meant to be taken literally, when it wouldn't be uncommon to make such a statement any time the market price for what the speaker is selling has gone up greatly. It also relies on the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy. "After" does not imply "because". en.wikipedia.org "Since Bush-Cheney came in to power" doesn't mean "because Bush-Cheney came in to power", let alone "because now we have the power to control the world market in oil and the American market in gasoline since Bush-Cheney came to power".
