Dear Monica:

If you take the entire output of the FASL fabs, you must add Fujitsu's allocation of the production as well. And when you add AMD's and Fujitsu's flash production together, it exceeds Intel's. Yet it takes Intel with over 7x the capacity to produce 3.5x the chips.

Of course, You, Elmer and others fail to ever see that a simple explanation exists. That both AMD and Intel plan for so many wafer starts and neither are running at their current capacities. If Intel ran at full capacity in today's market, they would lose money hand over fist as much of the production would be thrown away. AMD is in a slightly better boat as more production from it may be saleable relative to full production, but it needs 13 weeks to ramp up when Intel goes into shortage about the same time Intel needs to ramp up. However if AMD underestimates the real demand, it is not as bad as when Intel does it. And whenever Intel underestimates and AMD does not, it can get very bad for Intel, LT.
