Mary Cheney has said nothing about the brouhaha at all, as far as I know. She is not politically active [edit: meaning she has not run for office, she does work in the Bush/Cheney campaign] nor has she been a "gay rights" spokesperson. Another reason why she should have not been mentioned by Kerry.

BTW, here is Kerry's response, showing he is as thick as a brick in understanding the nature of the opposition to his remarks. Frankly, the relationship between the Cheneys and their daughter is none of his damned business.

Kerry himself tried to ease the ill-will by clarifying his comment, without making an apology.

"I respect their love for their daughter and I respect who she is, as they do," he said. "I think it was a way of saying, 'Look, she's who she is.' I have great respect for her, great respect for them. It was meant constructively in terms of their love and affection for a person who is who she is."
