On-line trades rose a record 47% to 500,000 a day between the fourth quarter of 1998 to the first quarter of this year, according to Credit Suisse First Boston analyst Bill Burnham. Almost 16% of stock trades now take place on-line. On-line trading rose 34% to 340,000 trades a day between the third and fourth quarters of last year.
