”Any moron can be unafraid.”

I did not mean to imply that some one who does not fear death and is noble in their actions is ultimately fearless. Certainly, any cogent human being has fears. I for one, fear the degradation of my soul. I would consider that a fate worse than death. I also seek joy in the world. I fear that focusing too much on my own pleasure would result in degradation to my soul, so I try to be vigilant. Fates worse than death, always embody a fear that is greater than the hopes and dreams that are offered in temporal experience. My point being that not having a fear of death does not necessarily equal ultimate absence of fear or lack of intelligence.

You have eloquently described noble character. We have a difference of perspective on one aspect…no surprise, but thought I would give my perspective.

”It is of little nobility (IMO) if one merely gives up that which is (to him) of transient value--(his earth booties). Now if he gave up his "soul" (as atheists are by analogy doing when THEY sacrifice for humanity)--now that would be nobility!”

This is a contradiction in terms…similar to the confusion Huckleberry experienced when deciding whether or not to behave nobly in helping his friend Jim. One does not lose his soul by sacrificing earthly bootie, or in turning his back on inapplicable doctrine or religious oligarchy, for the sake of humanity...quite to the contrary, one's soul and character are strenthened by such an act.
