Echo Announces United States Postal Service EMOD Pilot Program Deemed a Success!
AGOURA HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 20, 1998--Electronic Clearing House Inc. (Nasdaq:ECHO - news) Monday announced that the United States Postal Service (USPS) designated the initial Electronic Money Order Dispenser (EMOD) pilot program successful and complete.
The EMOD system has automated the issuance of money orders and the daily reporting requirements of 121 small USPS offices in the greater Dallas area. The USPS will now place EMOD systems in 54 contract USPS offices in the greater Dallas area, making Dallas the first district to achieve 100 percent electronic collection of daily accounting information from its local USPS offices.
''The pilot program was awarded to Computer Based Controls Inc. (CBC) by the USPS in November of 1995, focusing on providing money order and financial reporting automation to low-volume USPS offices. The first units were deployed into the field in May of 1997,'' stated Rick Slater, president of CBC, the ECHO wholly owned subsidiary that has managed the USPS pilot from its beginning.
''The USPS extended the pilot program in January of 1998 to add additional features into the overall system. CBC designed and implemented the requested features and a successful First Article Test of the new features was completed by the USPS in late June of 1998. Completion of this phase of the pilot program was deemed successful by the USPS on July 7, 1998,'' stated Slater.
''We have been very pleased with the quality of the people and the work product that we have received from both ECHO and CBC and we look forward to a continuing relationship,'' stated Rita Crawford, manager of USPS EMOD program.
''Additional features are being incorporated to further reduce paperwork and increase the speed of service, two primary goals of the USPS. To meet this need, the USPS has now authorized a follow-on project to the original pilot program,'' stated Slater.
''Our experience in working with the USPS has been of the highest professional level,'' stated Slater, ''and we are honored to be asked by the USPS to continue to develop the EMOD's application software and to broaden EMOD's hardware flexibility.''
