Y'know, if you read some of the stuff in the report and in the papers, it really isn't about sex. It's about a stupid venal man--Clinton--trying to weasel his way out of an uncomfortable personal situation by using the powers of his office. Simple as that. And during the impeachment hearings, they're not going to talk about sex or cigars or whatever. They're gonna talk about phone calls, conversations, and meetings after the affair was over. It's the coverup, stupid. And they may or may not get enough votes to impeach him.
If he were a CEO of a company he would either be fired or demoted or most likely, asked to resign. But he's not gonna resign. He's too much of an egotist. It would also cause the Dow to drop 2000 points, or do people disagree with that?
So what does he do instead? Dig in his heel and galvanize all the loonies, get all the rightwing psychos all hot and bothered and ready to rape the country. Clinton--by his stupidity, dishonesty, and by making a lot of very incriminating phone calls immediately after he testified in the Paula Jones deposition--put the ugliest elements in our society in a position to fire or impeach him and then impose their theocratic values on the normal people. So I find myself, of all people, someone who has never ever voted for the jerk nor liked him, actually coming to his defense, not because of his politics or God forbid, his character, but because I fear his enemies more than I dislike him. Yuppie jet trash that he is, he's still better than the American Ayatollahs. |
