COLOSSAL BUYS BARPLATS REFINERIES

JOHANNESBURG, Feb 4 (Reuter) - Barplats Investments Ltd said on Tuesday it had sold its mothballed Brakpan refinery
complex outside Johannesburg to Canada's Colossal Resources Corp for US$2.25 million. The deal is effective from Janaury
31, 1997.
The refinery complex comprises a precious metal refinery and a base metals refinery, Barplats said in a statement.
It was built to process platinum group metal matte produced by the Crocodile River and Kennedy's Vale mines, but with the
mothballing of these mines the complex too was closed, although certain portions were leased to Impala Platinum Ltd .
Business Day newspaper said the complex had the capacity to produce 150,000 ounces a year of platinum and associated
gold and palladium, 30 tonnes of copper a month and 45 tonnes of nickel into nickel sulphate a month.
Impala said it would process material through its Springs refinery.
